What is Yarnsgiving?

As the holiday season approaches, the Craft Yarn Council is excited to announce the launch of Yarnsgiving, a collaborative effort among its members and market key partners to promote the joy of crafting and giving with yarn. Yarnsgiving will run from I Love Yarn Day, October 12th, leading up to Giving Tuesday on December 3rd, aiming to inspire consumers to create holiday-themed projects with yarn that they can give to others or donate to “Warm Up America!” during the festive season.

The theme of Yarnsgiving is “making with yarn and giving to others,” echoing the spirit of Thanksgiving and emphasizing the joy of handmade gifts. Consumers will be encouraged to embrace the tradition of crafting heartfelt items to share with loved ones or contribute to charitable causes, fostering a sense of warmth and generosity during the holiday season.

Yarnsgiving will feature a wide array of projects suitable for gifting during the Thanksgiving season.

From charming pumpkins to cozy wine bottle cozies, elegant leaf garlands to stylish napkin rings, and festive wreaths, there will be something for every crafter to create and share with friends and family. These handmade creations will add a personal touch to holiday gatherings, whether adorning the dinner table, enhancing home décor, or being worn with pride.

“We’re thrilled to launch Yarnsgiving and celebrate the spirit of giving through the art of yarn crafting,” said Jenny Bessonette, Executive Director at the Craft Yarn Council. “Yarnsgiving offers a wonderful opportunity for crafters of all levels to showcase their creativity while spreading joy and warmth to those around them. We hope this campaign inspires individuals to embrace the tradition of handmade gifts and make a meaningful impact in their communities.”

Throughout Yarnsgiving, the Craft Yarn Council will provide resources, inspiration, and project ideas to empower crafters to participate in this heartwarming initiative. Whether knitting, crocheting, or crafting with yarn, participants can join the movement by sharing their creations on social media using the hashtag #Yarnsgiving.
