What is Yarnsgiving?

As the holiday season approaches, the Craft Yarn Council is proud to kick off the second year of Yarnsgiving, a collaborative campaign uniting yarn lovers, industry members, and partner organizations to celebrate creativity and generosity through yarn crafts. Running from I Love Yarn Day on October 11th through Giving Tuesday on December 2nd, Yarnsgiving encourages makers to create holiday-themed projects that can be shared with loved ones or donated to Warm Up America!, a nonprofit distributing handmade items to people in need.

The theme of Yarnsgiving—“making with yarn and giving to others”—reflects the joy of handmade giving and the spirit of the season. The initiative invites crafters of all skill levels to embrace the tradition of heartfelt, handcrafted gifts and contribute to charitable efforts through the simple act of making.

This year’s featured projects include a mix of returning favorites and new ideas to inspire holiday creativity, such as charming pumpkins, festive wreaths, table runners and more!

Whether used to decorate a Thanksgiving table, gifted to a friend, or donated to someone in need, these projects provide accessible ways for people to get involved.

“We’re excited to bring Yarnsgiving back for a second year and continue celebrating the power of yarn to connect people and give back,” said Jenny Bessonette, Executive Director at the Craft Yarn Council. “This campaign is about more than crafting—it’s about community, purpose, and generosity. We hope Yarnsgiving inspires even more people to use their creativity to make a meaningful impact.”

Throughout the campaign, the Craft Yarn Council will share free patterns, ideas, and resources at yarnsgiving.com, encouraging participants to share their creations online using the hashtag #Yarnsgiving to inspire others and spread the word.
